Impact Capital Forum is pleased to host an online discussion about how leaders in the impact investing community are adjusting their programs to serve NYC due to the pandemic's impact. It takes place Wed, April 29, 3-4 pm EDT.

As the ravages of the novel COVID-19 pandemic continues to sweep across the globe, New York State has become its epicenter, accounting for 30% of the 895,766 cases recorded nationwide. The cost on lives and livelihoods is incalculable, particularly amongst poor and vulnerable groups. One of the best kept secrets of the impact investing community – community development financial institutions (CDFIs) and local lenders – have stepped forward, offering tailored financial and in-kind support to steer the city’s beleaguered small businesses through the crisis. Join us for a conversation on these critical response measures.

The panel will provide perspectives from both CDFIs/lenders and businesses on the following issues:

Top challenges facing poor communities and businesses alike with the crisis
Who, what & how about CDFIs and how they are critical in this environment
Overview of the alphabet soup of government programs (eg. PPP, EIDL, etc)
Challenges of businesses in accessing these programs
The medium term to long term outlook

Speakers include:

David Rosenn, CEO of the Hebrew Free Loan Society. HFLS provides $20 million per year in interest-free loans designed to increase financial resilience and economic opportunity for lower-income New Yorkers of all backgrounds. Before joining HFLS, Rabbi Rosenn served as Executive Vice President of The New Israel Fund. Previously, he was Founder and Executive Director of AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps, a year-long full-time anti-poverty program with sites in New York, Chicago, New Orleans and Washington, D.C.
Kwame Marfo, Chairman of the Business Center for New Americans. BCNA creates a path to self-sufficiency for immigrants & refugees by providing: small business loans, one-on-one business consulting, financing workshops and specialized savings programs. Over 1,700 refugees have participated in BCNA’s Individual Development Account Program, investing more than $24 million from savings, matching funds and loans for education, home ownership and small businesses. Kwame also serves on the board of Impact Capital Forum. He is an impact investor and social entrepreneur with investments across agribusiness, real estate, technology and media sectors.
Cathi Kim, Director of Inclusiv/ Capital. Inclusiv is a national CDFI intermediary that helps low-income and underserved communities achieve financial independence through community development credit unions. Inclusiv provides capital, advocacy, capacity building resources, and innovative products and services to CDCUs. Cathi manages Inclusiv/ Capital, which has invested nearly $180 million with partners across industries - philanthropy, religious, public and private sector, and SRI. Inclusiv members hold over $112 billion in community-controlled assets.
Jamila Issah Zomah, Founder and CEO of African Dishout - a culture-focused meal and grocery delivery company that connects locals with authentic African restaurants and grocery markets. African Dishout has completed over 40,000 individual deliveries since the company started in 2018. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur in the start-up space, Jamila has over 8 years of Institutional, Corporate and Retail Banking and Sales experiences from Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Fidelity Bank Ghana.
